Calgary Birth Doula and Breastfeeding Specialist
Heather Rogers
Birth and Bereavement Doula + Lactation Educator
My name is Heather and I would like to tell you a little bit about my beliefs and calling as a Birth and Bereavement Doula and Certified Lactation Educator.
I truly believe that every birthing person writes their own birth story and that it is my role to encourage and enable that journey. As a DONA certified Birth Doula, a SBD certified Birth and Bereavement Doula and a Certified Lactation Educator, I trust that instilling confidence and empowering birthing persons and partners creates not only a more fulfilling birth experience, but also helps to build better beginnings and stronger families. I also feel that by helping partners to be more connected and engaged during the birthing process, you and your partner can achieve a greater closeness and understanding that extends beyond the birth - you both have more faith in yourselves as parents/partners and experience more ease in finding a working rhythm when you transition home. In my birth and breastfeeding work, I utilize my first career as a teacher and my forever career as a mum of three to offer well rounded education, options, understanding, and comfort to my clients and believe in holding space for and wholly supporting whatever path you may choose. I am constantly amazed and honoured that I get to walk alongside the families through one of the most incredible times of your lives! Two of my favourite parts of being a Birth Doula are when I see the looks on you and your partner’s faces as you meet your child for the first time and when I get to witness the empowerment and pride you feel as you navigate pregnancy, birth and beyond. Wherever you decide to have your child - at home with a midwife, in a birth centre or in a hospital, I will always strive to help you shape your environment, navigate your path and find your voice. Whatever choices you make for your pregnancy, during labour, and your breastfeeding journey, I will hold space for you and support you - lending comfort in every way possible. Remember, this is YOUR story. My Doula support is best described like this: You are a birth servant. Do good without show or fuss. If you must take the lead, lead so that the mother is helped, yet free and still in charge. When the baby is born, they will rightly say: “We did it ourselves!” ~Tao Te Ching |
